Top 10 list

In the tradition of David Letterman, here is a top ten list I came up with;

Top ten ways to know you've had too much to drink...
10. You 'love' everybody around you.
9. You ended the night with a few tacos..in Tijuana.
8. The last thing you hear before passing out is 'you get 1 phone call'.
7. Then next morning you need Google Maps to find your car.
6. You find a receipt from a tattoo shop in your pocket, but you have no new tattoos.
5. Your the biggest bad ass in the bar and want to prove it.
4. You went out wearing jeans and came home in sweatpants.
3. You post on Facebook that you're listening to Michael Bolton.
2. White Castle is the best food.....EVER!!!
And the number 1 way to tell you've had too much to drink....you voted for Obama.

9/11 9 years later

As long as I live I will never forget the morning of September 11th, 2001. I was scared and pissed. Confused and angry. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. How could America be so vulnerable? I watched TV all day in awe. I think I actually cried when the towers fell. All I could think of was how many lives were lost.

Later that day, and for the next few days, you could see the plume of smoke from Monmouth County. It was a very eerie sight.

9 years later and we still remember. We salute all the heroes that gave their life that day. And the ones who have died since then from the after effects of being at ground zero.

This year I ask you to do the same as last year. While we remember the heroes, let's also remember all the civilians that lost their lives going to work. So many innocent lives cut short.

Also remember the attack on the Pentagon and United Airlines Flight 93. God bless all the victims, their family and friends. And God Bless America!!!

Saying goodbye again.......

Once again in 2010 I said goodbye to someone. My cousin Lisa's husband Kenny. He was more than just my cousin's husband. He was a cousin. He was family. He was a friend. Kenny passed away July 31st at the age of 48. Kenny was a great guy. He had some health issues. He was on his second kidney transplant. He had some complications. He had some pain and he had some trouble. But, one thing he didn't do was complain. Not only did he not complain about his problems, he didn't complain about anything. It seemed as if he was never in a bad mood. There are not many people like Kenny and Lord knows we could use a lot more.

I've spent a lot of time hunting and fishing with him. In fact, he was the first person I went hunting with. I've also smoked many cigars with him and partied with him. He was a fun guy to be around. You always knew when he was there that you'd be laughing. He was able to make the best out of any situation.

Goodbye and God Bless you Kenny, you will be missed!!!!! R.I.P.

Saying goodbye

In December of 2009, my father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer. In May of 2010 we were saying goodbye. I have only know my father-in-law, Gene, 11 short years. In that time we have become very close.

I used to tell people that he was like a second father to me but the more I thought of it, he WAS a second father to me. No words can explain the pain I feel right now. There is a void in my life that can not be filled by someone else. He has helped me with problems, either a leak in the sink, a room that needed to be remodeled or a personal problem. He never sugar coated anything, he told it like it was. What he said may not have been what I wanted to hear but I knew it was the truth...and I cherish that.

There were many times I wanted to drink a beer that I knew I shouldn't have but I knew I could count on him to drink one, or many, with me. Many a night we ended with beers and a cigar. Either by the pool in the summer or in the garage freezing our asses off in the middle of the winter.

I lost my father-in-law, a beer and cigar buddy but most of all, I lost a friend. I love you big guy,I will never forget you or the times we had.

I watched the Academy Of Country Music Awards last night and I was very disappointed. There was very little country music. It seemed more like the pop music awards. It is a shame what happened to country music over the years. To me, there is nothing country about Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum or Gloriana. Even some of the music from Carrie Underwood really isn't country. It was almost a chore to watch the entire show.

The highlights of the show, in my opinion, were Charlie Daniels on the fiddle in the beginning, Toby Keith's tribute song to Wayman Tisdale, "Crying For Me" and, aside from the microphone malfunction, Brooks And Dunn. Laure Bell Bundy's "Giddy On Up" was also good.

Country music has evolved over time from the days of Hank Williams Sr. to Willie Nelson to Travis Tritt to Kenny Chesney. Today's country music is missing the two stepping songs, the steel guitar, the fiddle solos and the "Southern Twang" of yesteryear. With the rare exception, most of today's country can and is played on mainstream radio. 20 years ago there was no country music on the radio except the few country stations that were left. I first notice that country music was changing back in 2001 when my wife and I decided to use the song Amazed by Lonestar for our wedding song. I discovered that there was the original version and the "radio version". Apparently the radio version didn't have the steels guitars. I had to make sure we had the "country version".

At the rate country music is changing and evolving, pretty soon there won't be any country music left at all.

Well, at least I still have my country CDs and the country music channels on TV.

What happened to Dunkin Donuts

There is a Dunkin Donuts next to where Baileigh goes to school so today when I picked her up we went there. I got a coffee and she got a donut. At the last minute I decided to get a donut for myself. I knew they weren't that fresh but figured I get one anyway.

It was one of the worst donuts I think I ever had. It was soo stale. I know it was late, around 4:45 PM but back in the 80's and early 90's no matter what time you went in there the donuts were fresh and the coffee was good. Now the donuts suck and the coffee is OK at best. I must admit that the worst cup of DD coffee is still better than any kind of coffee that Starbucks has. I have only been there twice and will NEVER go back there. At least with DD you have a 50/50 shot of getting a decent cup of coffee.
