Wii and Wii Fit

We just got the Wii and the Wii Fit last night and I am already addicted to it. It came with five games; golf, tennis, boxing, bowling and baseball. I like the golf but unfortunately, I play Wii golf much like I play golf in real life....sucky.

The Wii Fit is awesome. It keeps track of your BMI and your weight. It also tracks your progress and goals. My wife and I are competing in various events. There's slalom, ski jump, hula-hoop, aerobics and more. There is even one program where you have to jog in place. Now I don't know about you but I haven't ran in a VERY long time. Even my daughter (4) plays it. I thought maybe the Wii Fit would be a gimmick but so far I am impressed. It is also a lot cheaper and easier than joining a gym....which I used to do.

Well, I keep posting about my progress from time to time........unless it is not good. :-)

Another deerless hunt......

It happened yet again...a deerless hunt. I got to the farm late, about 1:30 P.M. It was 14 degrees. I headed into the woods and got about halfway to the back fields when I kicked up a deer on the right side in heavy brush. I couldn't tell if it was a buck or doe as it ran in the opposite direction. I never had a shot opportunity.

I hunted on the ground all day...well, all afternoon anyway. About an hour or so later, I was sitting in a clearing off the path. In about the same area I saw the deer earlier. Up the path about 80 yards I saw a doe cross, stop in the path for about 3 seconds then head into the woods. 80 yards is too far of a shot...for me anyway. I saw some more movement but wasn't sure if it was a deer or not.

Thank God for hunting clothes. The temp must have gone down when I was out there but I was not the least bit cold. One thing I did realize though; the next time I go to the archery range, I am going to practice shooting in awkward positions so that if I am faced with the same situation
as I faced with the first deer, maybe I will be able to take the shot. Maybe.

I have one more chance. I am going back on Jan 31st, the last day of the season.

Jersey driving

What is it with people in New Jersey and the weather? Every time it snows or rains the stupidity of people comes out. I was driving on the Garden State Parkway south in Monmouth county this morning when the snow started. It was about 6:30 or so and not much traffic. The snow was coming down fairly hard and the roads had a light dusting on them. In fact it was blowing around from the traffic. I can't tell you how many morons I came up on doing 40 MPH in the middle lane. What the f*$k is that!! The right lane is for driving slow. Besides, there was no reason to drive that slow at all.

Sure, there were trucks out sanding so I slowed down around them but otherwise the conditions were fine for 65 MPH; the speed limit. The only thing worse is when these people do that in the fast lane. If you are too afraid to drive in inclement weather, take a bus, train or call a cab. Or better yet, stay home.

The other thing I see all the time is cars that are covered in snow except for a spot on the wind shield. I guess these people are in too much of a hurry to clean off the snow and/or ice. I wonder what they would do if ice flew off their car and it damaged another car. Or if it hurts or God forbid kills someone. I don't understand it. Get up 15 minutes earlier and clean off your car!!!!

Snow geese

NJ is implementing a spring snow goose hunting season from March 11 – April 18, 2009 . Here is the link to the site. http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/news/2009/snowgeese09.htm Before we do anything about them, I think we should do something about the Canada Goose first. Everywhere you go you see them; parks, playgrounds, parking lots etc. I mean, you can't even play a round of golf without coming in contact with them. And forget about fishing. I take my daughter fishing and there are Canada Goose droppings all over.

A company I used to work for had a really bad problem with them, so they spent money on cardboard cutouts of dogs to scare the geese away. After a while the geese became accustomed to them and actually starting eating and sleeping right next to them. Then they hired a dog patrol, figuring that a real dog would do the trick. Although the girl with the dog came at different times, the same thing happened. As soon as she left, the geese came back. Sometimes even more.

But this is New Jersey so it is no surprise that the officials who run the state would not want to do anything to scavengers that feed off other people. I mean the Canada geese, not the politicians.

Camera

As if I don't have enough hobbies I am interested in picking up yet another one...photography. All I have right now is a point and shoot Kodak. While it is good enough for close up shots and family parties, it is not good for a lot of other stuff. I like to take it with me when I go to the farm hunting but I can't get the shots I want. The other night the moon and clouds looked really awesome and I tried to get a picture of it and it did not come out so good.

I have been looking at the Nikon D60. It seems to be a decent entry level digital SLR although I must admit I do not know much about cameras...yet. I have seen this go for around $500 to $700 (some body only and some with 1 lens). I did see on ebay.com, Sunshine Electronics offer the Nikon D60 with 3 lenses, bag, hard case, 2 tripods and a lot of other accessories for $629.00 + free shipping. I do not know anything about them and they have a 99.4 % Positive rating so I read some of them. It seems they take a long time to ship orders out, very slow customer service response and the biggest is the accessories seem to be junk.

If anybody has dealt with Sunshine Electronics or knows anything about them, let me know. They are located in Brooklyn NY. It may be worth my while to get the Camera and lens from a camera shop and slowly get the accessories one by one so at least I know I will not be getting junk.

Another deer hunting bust

Got into my stand on Friday @ 7 am for some bow hunting. It was about 23 degrees and didn't get any warmer all day. I left the woods at 4:30. I didn't see or hear anything the whole time. I even sat through the snow fall, thinking that would get things going. I waited and waited but still nothing. I hunted out of my tree stand, my friends tree stand and walked the property to no avail. I have until the end of the month so I will be going back for sure.
