Another deerless hunt......

It happened yet again...a deerless hunt. I got to the farm late, about 1:30 P.M. It was 14 degrees. I headed into the woods and got about halfway to the back fields when I kicked up a deer on the right side in heavy brush. I couldn't tell if it was a buck or doe as it ran in the opposite direction. I never had a shot opportunity.

I hunted on the ground all day...well, all afternoon anyway. About an hour or so later, I was sitting in a clearing off the path. In about the same area I saw the deer earlier. Up the path about 80 yards I saw a doe cross, stop in the path for about 3 seconds then head into the woods. 80 yards is too far of a shot...for me anyway. I saw some more movement but wasn't sure if it was a deer or not.

Thank God for hunting clothes. The temp must have gone down when I was out there but I was not the least bit cold. One thing I did realize though; the next time I go to the archery range, I am going to practice shooting in awkward positions so that if I am faced with the same situation
as I faced with the first deer, maybe I will be able to take the shot. Maybe.

I have one more chance. I am going back on Jan 31st, the last day of the season.
